Califone: Roots & Crowns

Califone
Roots & Crowns
Thrill Jockey Records [2006]

After a brief hiatus (in musical years), Califone return with their strongest album to date Roots & Crowns. Building on Heron King Blues [1994] assets, Califone have expanded their sound and come back with a energized fresh take approach to their style. It is a much more light-hearted affair this time around and Roots & Crowns does not stray away from the best part of Califone, which is their reserved instrumentation and top-notch songwriting. Tim Rutili has that sort of voice that is quiet and compelling, which compliments every chord that is played. Their music draws you in, holds you there and makes you pay attention. When that happens, you know you have just experienced a great album. Roots & Crowns is that kind of experience!
