The Long Blondes: Someone To Drive You Home

The Long Blondes
Someone To Drive You Home
Rough Trade Records [2006]

The Long Blondes bring back that fiery female English swagger that we have not seen since Elastica evaporated years ago. The Sheffield quintet of three gals and two guys hammer away pop punk nugget after nugget on their long player debut Someone To Drive You Home with each track compelling the listener to toe tap along and hum the chorus. Pulp’s Steve Mackey produced the album and either by association or a more direct influence, The Long Blondes have a very similar intelligent lyric style plus the lead vocalist Kate Jackson could easily be the female version of Pulp’s Jarvis Cocker. All of these elements combine for a great debut and a rockin’ good time. Someone To Drive You Home will grow on you more and more with repeat listens and should see great success throughout this year.

Key Tracks: "Once And Never Again", "Separated By Motorways", "Weekend Without Makeup"
