Mezzanine OwlsSlingshot Echoes
Self-Released [2006]

LA band Mezzanine Owls self-released Slingshot Echoes is an excellent debut, full of solid indie rock soundscapes capable of winning you over with one listen. Recorded by Andy LeMaster (Now It's Overhead, Azure Ray, Bright Eyes), Slingshot Echoes contains wistful intense layers of guitars and keyboards driven by purposive drumbeats. The real cohesiveness that holds Mezzanine Owls debut together is the vocals of lead singer Jack Burnside that is a very British sounding Conor Oberst, which remains consistent throughout the album hovering just above the instrumentation. Mezzanine Owls can be summed up with a combination of different genre elements that include some faint shoegazeing, alt-country backgrounds and simple harmonizing tracks giving the listener a rewarding experience from beginning to end regardless of which style you prefer.
