Thunderhawk: Thunderhawk V "Gravity Wins!"

Thunderhawk
Thunderhawk V: Gravity Wins!
Self-Released [2007]

Fire Note Says: Thunderhawk brings the indie from Indiana!

Album Review:

Thunderhawk’s new release Thunderhawk V: Gravity Wins! provides a fun thirty minute listen that follows a lo-fi template song structure with most tracks hitting around the mid two-minute mark. The songs themselves are short, to the point, energetic and filled with catchy harmonies. Josh Hall’s vocals are similar to that of Pavement’s Malkmus and he is simply supported by drummer Doug Market (ON, Canada) and the music Hall wrote and recorded in basements and apartments throughout Indiana. Thunderhawk offers several different styles, from the opening track swagger and stroll of “I’ve Got A Bullet With Your Name On It” to the dead on GBV like song “Bleeding Out”. The band lets completely loose on the rocking Foo Fighterish “Backlash” but then breaks out the piano on the next little ballad “Still Asleep”. So even though stylistically Thunderhawk V jumps all over in a very short amount of time, it wins its case for being totally indie and should welcome a wide fanbase. The band deserves your ear after nearly 10 years together, 6 albums in the bag and many catchy gems that will hold your attention – even if it is just for thirty minutes!
