Fire Note Says:
A enthusiastic Pollard revisits his inner youth!

Album Review:
Brown Submarine is the debut album from another Robert Pollard vehicle called Boston Spaceships and this time Chris Slusarenko (Takeovers, GBV) and John Moen (Decemberists, Elliott Smith) are on board for the creative output. Like every Pollard band, Boston Spaceships has its own style and swagger but mostly borrows from the kindled spirits of some great lighthearted Brit pop-punk. Brown Submarine is fun, alive, humorous, and goes along way with some cheap American lager such as Bud, Rolling Rock or MGD. You might think that the description calls for instant cut out bin but not so fast. Humor has always went a long way in the multitude of Pollard tracks plus having the experienced indie guys Slusarenko and drummer Moen as part of your trio, only pushes the quality of Brown Submarine upward. One constant is that the Pollard technique is in full force on Brown Submarine with clever melded lyrics that grab your attention such as the line "Confesses she likes Guns n Roses, - says Axl's alright" in the catchy "Two Girl Area". The music just simply brings you back to when times were simple and all you worried about was what party you were going to hit that evening. At the end of the day Boston Spaceships is a fun offering from Pollard and should be picked up by any fan of his work because lets face it - everyone needs a little of the good BS is their day!

"You Satisfy Me", "Two Girl Area", "Psych Threat"
