Fire Note Says: Stellar melodies and grooves on Montreal bands debut!

Album Review:
Montreal's Winter Gloves debut record About A Girl may not immediately take hold of you but I recommend you give it several spins and then tell me what you think. The group has an indie mix of drums, vocals, guitar, bass and pulsing synths that drive their mid tempo melodies to a foot tapping fever and possesses a cool swagger that will fit in nicely with your favorite bands. Winter Gloves were named iTunes Canada's Best New Artist of 2008 and keep their formula simple throughout About A Girl with its ten tracks that come in nicely under thirty minutes. This is a great example of not overdoing it because Winter Gloves offer up twists and turns to their style but never shift out of their overall sound. Lead singer Charles F takes complete command with his surprising falsetto that gives each song a different dynamic and paces the tracks nicely with the grinding synths. About A Girl hits shelves next week and should put Winter Gloves on the hype list for a debut that is entertaining, catchy and indie rocking!
