SCORE! 20 Years Of Merge Records: THE COVERS!
Merge Records [2009]

Fire Drill Review:
It is hard to believe that Merge is now 20 and in that time has climbed to be one of the premier indie record labels in the land. The label has always treated itself nicely on its birthday especially on 5 year intervals. 20 years is no different and maybe one of the coolest ideas they have had in awhile. The twenty songs found here span the label's existence but instead of the actual Merge recording artist version you will find a cover by some of the most popular non-Merge bands around, such as Quasi, Les Savy Fav, The Shins, Ryan Adams, Bright Eyes, The New Pornographers, Okkervil River, Death Cab For Cutie, Times New Viking. It is a great compilation and has a much higher replay value than most compilations plus the money goes to good causes! All proceeds benefit charities chosen by the SCORE curators.

Key Tracks:
"Precision Auto" (Superchunk) - Les Savy Fav
"The Numbered Head" (Robert Pollard) - Ted Leo
"Like A Fool" (Superchunk) - Ryan Adams
"Papa Was A Rodeo" (Magnetic Fields) - Bright Eyes
"Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)" (Arcade Fire) - Times New Viking
"Don't Destroy This Night" (The Rock*A*Teens) - The New Pornographers
