Fire Drill Review:
A cappella (Italian for chapel or choir) music is vocal music or singing without instrumental accompaniment and leave it to Ben Folds to create an entire record in this style with fifteen groups covering his tunes. The collectives span the country from the University of Rochester to Sacramento State and even Ben Folds gets in on it for 2 tracks. This may sound somewhat corny at first but after taking this project for a spin, it not only gives you an outstanding appreciation for these student talents but also Folds songwriting. University A Cappella! may not have an extreme staying power after several listens but it is a novel idea that couldn't have turned out better and really is an enjoyable and completely different listen!
