Fire Note Says: This indie pop from Manchester is worth the airfare!
Album Review:
Those who have followed my reviews over the last several years know that I am a sucker for the next big UK band. Well - here we go again because The Answering Machine hails from Manchester and their debut record is full of energy, vigor and enough catchy hooks for me to crank Another City, Another Sorry up all summer long. After creating buzz in '06 and '07 with some solid singles the group used last year to craft their record while snagging the right guy for the job in Dave Eringa (Manic Street Preachers, Idlewild) to produce. The end result is a solid indie pop gem from the UK that does not try too hard with each of its bouncy tracks, that all have their own sing-a-long choruses, which not only engages the listener but ensures that they are part of the fun. From the whooing background vocal support in first single "Obviously Cold" to the maturity of ballad "Electricity", The Answering Machine are ready to make some noise with their infectious debut!
Key Tracks: "Obviously Cold", "Light Bulbs", "Cliffer"
