Anti-Flag: The People Or The Gun

Anti-Flag
The People Or The Gun
SideOneDummy Records [2009]

Fire Note Says:
Straight forward political punk rock!

Album Review:
Sometimes you are never sure what will happen to a band when they return back from some time with the major labels as Anti-Flag had several years and two albums with RCA Records but now make a return to the indies with SideOneDummy. For Anti-Flag the transition means nothing but coming back on album number seven feistier, catchier and politically charged as ever. You can almost sense from the first guitar strum that Anti-Flag were never comfortable in the majors and other than having the experience, an independent label is where they belong. The People Or The Gun is a solid charging forward punk rock album that targets some expected subjects including big corporations, government and religion. This record highlights the band's experience at all levels as it blends the hardcore punk that made them great as a new band, catchy hooks that made them appealing to the major labels and most importantly their showmanship which appeals to their legions of fans. The People Or The Gun of course does not offer any earth shattering new sounds but there is something to be said for a competently tight record - Anti-Flag offer you that record!
