Fire Note Says: Solid debut with fresh sound!
Album Review:
Alberta Cross is a Brooklyn band with UK roots that is gaining some momentum in the hype department and was just recently featured in the Breaking Artist section of Rolling Stone. On the groups soon to be released debut, Broken Side Of Time, they successfully blend a slight southern blues sound with plush sprawling modern rock guitar overtones, that are all carried by Brit frontman/guitarist-vocalist Petter Ericson Stakee's wide range. His soaring falsetto's are very comparable to Jim James (My Morning Jacket) and Neil Young, which are completely memorable and inviting. This makes the roots rock sing along chorus in "Old Man Chicago" stay with you as long as the six minute plus sultry and grinding "Rise From The Shadows". Alberta Cross don't bring you anything completely new or totally original but Broken Side Of Time is a very competent album that showcases talented musicians and truly gets better every time you hear it. Alberta Cross is a band that should appeal to both the Coldplay and Kings Of Leon fans while introducing the Zeppelin and Band folks a new group they actually might like. This mix of modern and classic creates a real balance for Alberta Cross that lives up to the hype and probably is a preview to a band we will be hearing more from!
