Fire Note Says: Band just gets better on third LP!
Album Review:
In Dappled Cities native country of Australia, Zounds just recently debuted at number one on their indie album chart. The record officially releases here next week on Dangerbird and it is the bands third album. Zounds is easily the most mature record the sonically inclined band has released and it is full of swooping soundscapes and brooding vocals. This combination does not initially let any track stand out as Zounds is more of a slow-burner that is easier to comprehend after several spins. It is at this point that your hear the controlled desperation in "The Night Is Young At Heart" or the marching orchestrated power of "Kid", while the background synthesizers of lead off track "Hold You Back" support the entire Flaming Lips type vocal. Overall Dappled Cities will probably struggle with the US audience due to short attention spans but given a chance Zounds has a multitude of good things going for it and rightfully deserves your ear!
Key Tracks: "The Price", "Wooden Ships", "Stepshawdows"
