There are many ways to measure the success of a band and the Drive-By Truckers have just recently released two of them with a rarities disc and a live CD/DVD set. Sure many bands have pulled off a stellar studio album here and there but you can start to narrow the field when you examine their complete work. When you find groups that not only have a balanced output and sound great live, what more do you really need? The Drive-By Truckers flex their veteran muscles on both releases as The Fine Print is better then many groups studio albums and Live From Austin TX is an excellent example that performing is their strong suit. On The Fine Print you will find some solid alternate versions of previously released material and the Drive-By Truckers handle classics from Petty, Zevon and Dylan just to keep it interesting. Live In Austin contains a lot of material from last years excellent Brighter Than Creation's Dark [2008] but goes all the back with "18 Wheels Of Love" from Gangstabilly [1998]. The package also provides you a DVD of the bands performance making it a must for fans. Even with lineup changes and a constant sharing of songwriting duties, both of these releases showcase the strength of the Truckers and will not disappoint even the most casual fan!
