Fire Drill Review:
If you are asking yourself who the heck are The Feelies, then you are in for a real treat! Bar/None Records has brought back the New Jersey groups first two records with a solid remastering and several downloadable unreleased bonus tracks for each record. Crazy Rhythms [1980] was the bands debut and is still considered their best. The record was 49th in both Rolling Stone's top 100 albums of the 80's and Spin's top 100 alternative records of all time. The Feelies twin guitar assault created a vibrant and live feel to their music, which was even more evident in their own cover twist to the more obscure Beatles track "Everybody's Got Something To Hide". The Good Earth didn't release for another six years and has a very R.E.M. sound. This may have been because the band was playing shows with them and Peter Buck co-produced the record but it was a slight shift in their music. Even though The Good Earth is not necessarily as highly regarded as Crazy Rhythms, the record has held up nicely to the test of time and is a worth while slice of alternative history to own and check out!
