Hallelujah The Hills: Colonial Drones

Hallelujah The Hills
Colonial Drones
Misra Records [2009]

Fire Drill Review:
On their sophomore full length Colonial Drones, Boston's Hallelujah The Hills sound more focused and creative then ever. Building on the indie song structures of their debut, Hallelujah The Hills show off lyrical wit in every track here that is both humorous and right on point. They offer several different approaches throughout the record that will remind you in parts of Pavement, while strolling songs like "Classic Tapes", featuring Cassie Berman of Silver Jews, is reminiscent of early R.E.M.. You really can't go wrong with this approach if you can pull it off and Hallelujah The Hills does just that. Colonial Drones is a record that has no stand out single but as a collection of consecutive tracks, they work together to form a record that has plenty of hooks, is playfully fun, college smart and simply indie good!

Key Track: "You Better Hope You (Die Before Me)"
