More of the same but do you care?

Album Review:
The Vivian Girls tore onto the indie scene last year with their stellar self-titled debut plus sparked a small noisy lo-fi movement, so the bar was already set high for the sophomore follow up Everything Goes Wrong. The good news for fans is that Everything Goes Wrong has more of the fuzzed up garage rock that made their debut so infectious. Critics of the band will complain that there is not enough deviation on this record to warrant high praise, which is somewhat true. For better or worse, the band definitely stays in their comfort zone with short songs, lots of lo-fi distortion and some songs about dudes and being alone. With that said, the record feels more mature as the band stays the course and does not waiver much from what they are good at. If anything, maybe it exposes this genre for its limitations but that is the real challenge and on the closing ballad "Before I Start To Cry" the Vivian Girls set the tone for something different, something edgy and something that should tempt you to spin it again.

Key Tracks: "I Have No Fun", "Before I Start To Cry", "Survival"
