Built To Spill: There Is No Enemy

Built To Spill
There Is No Enemy
Warner Bros. Records [2009]

Fire Note Says: Classic Built To Spill!

Album Review:
I have always felt that Built To Spill is a band that never gets the respect they rightfully deserve. They release quality music album after album and yet each record seems to be met with a yawn. Some of this comes from Built To Spill's tendency to jam well beyond the six minute mark at times and more recently it seemed that their tracks did not have as much purpose or direction. There Is No Enemy changes that and finds band leader Doug Martsch refocusing and putting out the bands most consistent eleven tracks in years. The album still contains all the elements that make a solid Built To Spill record but more so then ever, the songs here feel like they have meaning. Martsch sounds totally committed to each track and that makes each song special. It doesn't matter if it is on the short under three minute rocker "Pat" or on the over seven minute closer "Tomorrow", Built To Spill show you why they are still on a major label and what all the critical fuss has been about for the last 15 years. Welcome back Built To Spill - There Is No Enemy is a true winner for fans and beyond!
