Fire Drill Review:
We have been covering Greg Laswell since 2006 and it still surprises me a bit that he has never hit the mainstream with his Chris Martin like vocals and solid songwriting skills. On this 5 song EP outing he decides to leave the songwriting to others, while focusing purely on channeling the emotions behind the songs. Covers features songs from Echo & the Bunnymen ("Killing Moon"), Morphine ("In Spite Of Me"), Mazzy Star ("Take Everything"), Kristen Hersh ("Your Ghost"), and Kate Bush ("This Woman's Work") in that particular order. What really makes this release worthy are the final three tracks, which cover all great unique female voices and showcase how Laswell is able to portray the raw essentials of each track through a male perspective. I could see these songs easily sneaking onto some TV shows and it truly adds to an already impressive resume for Laswell!
