Mist And MastAction At A Distance
Oakland Petting Zoo [2009]

Fire Drill Review:
Mist And Mast sophomore album Action At A Distance is an expansion of their self-titled debut as it represents more of a "bands" work, then just founder Jason Lakis. On their debut, Lakis recorded and played all the instruments himself before assembling a touring band, while Action At A Distance still includes solo recordings but for a better half of the album, Lakis records with the group. This change in process can be heard clearly as Action At A Distance sounds more alive, cohesive and textured. It finds Mist And Mast finding their niche as they have settled in on mid-tempo indie tracks that build on each other and have the same vibe as Built To Spill or The Dismemberment Plan. Having already shared the stage with acts such as Fleet Foxes and The Dutchess And Duke, there is no reason that Mist And Mast should not find more exposure with Action At A Distance, as it represents their best work yet!
