Rain Machine: Rain Machine

Rain Machine
Rain Machine
ANTI- Records [2009]

Fire Drill Review:
Rain Machine is TV On The Radio's guitarist/singer Kyp Malone new moniker for what really could be called his solo record. It is a much more free form expression of his TVOTR work and six of its eleven tracks cross the five minute mark with the longest being the almost eleven minute "Winter Songs" closer. It is not so much the lengths that are the distraction here but the pace of the tracks in the second half of the album. They are long and mostly crawl. If you can get by that piece, sonically Rain Machine is superb and not too much of a stretch from Malone's main bands quality work. Rain Machine is truly the artist vision compared to his normal band focus, and Kyp has found his outlet here - it is just that it takes a long time to get to the end of Malone's total statement.

Key Track: "Hold You Holy"

Band With Similar Fire: Iran
