Strung Out: Agents Of The Underground

Strung Out
Agents Of The Underground
Fat Wreck Chords [2009]

Fire Drill Review:
It is easy to say that punk has went back underground and Fat Wreck Chords staple act Strung Out have just released a record like it is 1996 again. Let's be honest - there is only so much you can do with the standard punk genre, so it is a must that you do it well to last. Strung Out has had that formula and shows it off again on the bands newest record Agents Of The Underground, which also celebrates their 20th anniversary. What makes this record such a strong return is that the group left out their more recent dabbling in "nĂ¼ metal" to focus in on the melodic guitar punk that put them on the map in the first place. This decision won't make Strung Out a household name but does make Agents Of The Underground one of their better albums in recent years and should gain the attention of Warp Tour punkers that still have their copy of Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues [1996] in regular rotation!

Key Track: "Heart Attack"
