In the spirit of the almighty lo-fi genre, Wallscenery Demos offers up one of the more unique releases this year on their sophomore album Check This!. James Hicken is the man behind the band and Check This! gives you 23 total tracks in 36 minutes, which includes everything from pop hooks to atmospheric sounds that are balanced by intermittent spoken word segments. It is the unrestricted vibe on Check This! that makes it so intriguing because in the same short two minute song, Hicken can not only create a shoegaze aura but quickly kick into an indie pop moment. Wallscenery Demos is a group that must be ingested over time because on first listen, you simply won't get it - give the record multiple spins and Check This! all comes together.
