Fire Drill Review:
The xx have just released a debut record that most bands simply dream about. The South London quartet have accomplished making an album that is fully realized way past their twenty years of age. The soft yet direct undertone pulse in xx drives each track, while the duel vocals of singer-guitarist Romy Madley Croft and bassist Oliver Sim are not only welcoming but entrancing as you follow the beats and get seduced by their words. The xx really do make simple pop songs like Belle & Sebastian but have the majestic electronic and atmospheric tones of Radiohead. This combo definitely feels new and ventures into a music territory that does not have much exploration. This makes xx a record that we will continue to listen to and most certainly it will find itself on our "best of" list in December!
