The Mother Hips: Pacific Dust

The Mother Hips
Pacific Dust
Camera Records [2009]

Fire Drill Review:
Most don't know that The Mother Hips first appeared on the Aware 2 compilation back in 1994 with the likes of Better Than Ezra, Verve Pipe, Edwin McCain, Vertical Horizon and Hootie. From there, like others, they made several albums for the majors but eventually were dropped due to not ever catching on with the masses. Lucky for us the band trudged on and really has produced some of their best work in this decade. Their breezy 70's pop rock approach and strong song writing really makes them one of the most underrated bands in this genre. Pacific Dust is the bands seventh studio record and it once again successfully combines their past roots rock upbringing with much more laid back and flowing tempo song structures that sway and move from one right into the next. The Mother Hips have a very Wilco meets The Jayhawks swallowed by the Eagles sound that is completely well thought out and enjoyable to just let play and then hit repeat!

Key Track: "Third Floor Story"

Band With Similar Fire: Wilco
