Album Review:
It is hard to believe that A Friend Of A Friend is the first record from guitarist, producer, singer and songwriter Dave Rawlings, which is best known for his work with Gillian Welch, Old Crow Medicine Show, Bright Eyes and Ryan Adams. The album is a very straightforward acoustic folk record that features Rawlings out front covering several tunes from his co-writing credits with Old Crow, Adams and Bright Eyes, as well as some new tracks penned with Welch. What helps drive the Dave Rawlings Machine is the inclusion of his talented friends that not only includes Welch on backup but Benmont Tench from the Heartbreakers, plus Nate Walcott and Karl Himmel of Bright Eyes. This solid group of musicians only adds to the talent Rawlings presents as a frontman and makes A Friend Of A Friend a great and entertaining listen from beginning to end.
