Dawes: North Hills

Dawes
North Hills
ATO Records [2009]

Fire Drill Review:
The California quartet Dawes will instantly remind you of yesteryear rock with their soft melodic tone that draws a bit from the South, incorporates the California sun and contains a multitude of loose arrangements that simply flow. Overall, the record succeeds with its authentic Cali vibe as the band snagged the perfect producer in Jonathan Wilson (Gary Louris, Jenny Lewis, Elvis Costello) and recorded North Hills almost entirely live in the studio. Lead singer Taylor Goldsmith is a true standout, with his floating vocal and strategically employed wordplay that draws the listener into each strumming track and helps Dawes debut sound better after every spin.

Key Track: "When My Time Comes"

Band With Similar Fire: Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
