Album Review:
The more things change the more they stay the same. That line summarizes the the third long player from the UK's brooding and propulsive Editors. The record itself feels somewhat like the band has matured by the lack of clear cut singles and a much more low level pacing. All but the last track passes the four minute mark and right from the opening title track the Editors set this serious and intense tone, that carries throughout the records nine tracks. Sure they get more hyped up on the pulsing first single "Papillion", that will have you singing along with Tom Smith with the line "kicks like a sleep twitch" and the foot tapping crazy titled "Eat Raw Meat = Blood Drool" has one of the more catchy and memorable beats, but overall In This Light And On This Evening is a slow burn. The upside to this approach is that the band does not try to change any formula or move away from the Joy Division comparisons but simply embraces it. The problem is that the record takes multiple listens to really get into and without that one killer track the band will once again fall on deaf ears here in the States. For the Editors, they still have had massive success abroad and if you have been a fan then In This Light And On This Evening will not disappoint.
