Fire Note Says: We should have covered this one!
Album Review:
Reviews to kick off the new year are always a little slow to gain traction and many times we spend the first week giving some credit to albums that never made the pages in the previous year but should have. The Films sophomore record Oh, Scorpio is one of those records. The bands catchy retro alt-pop sound flourishes throughout this tightly packaged 10 song 33 minute album that gives a little something to your ear every time you hit play. It can be the quick snapping lyrics in the opener "Completely Replaceable" or the foot tapping sing along "Holiday", but The Films just sound like they are having a genuine good time on every song, which transcends to the listener. On Oh, Scorpio, The Films show off what seven years together dating back to high school can do for a band as their comfort level equals quality songs and solid chemistry, that all come together with the help of guru producer Butch Walker. At the end of the day, these are the type of albums I really enjoy. Sure you can find more artistic bands, more harmonizing bands, and more rocking bands but The Films give a true 100% effort throughout and have everything to gain for it, making Oh, Scorpio a record that I will still go back to here in 2010!
