Fire Note Says:
Welcome back Mr. Johnston!

Album Review:
After solid success in the 90's, singer/songwriter Freedy Johnston only released one album of new material all last decade, which was in 2001. Rain On The City puts an end to that drought and its collection of eleven tracks are easily some of his best work since the mid 90's. His ability to balance sentimental acoustic guitar numbers, such as the title track with fun rocking numbers like first single "Don't Fall In Love With A Lonely Girl" or the catchiest song on the record in "It's Gonna Come Back To You" is what makes Johnston's unique vocal twang and forward style such a spectacular talent. Regardless of tempo, Freedy's sincerity pours out of each track and not only draws you into the lyrics but invites you to stay. Nine years is a long time and Freedy could have simply disappeared completely but Rain On The City not only marks a full return to form but hopefully it is just the midpoint of an already stellar career!

Key Tracks: "It's Gonna Come Back To You", "Don't Fall In Love With A Lonely Girl", "Venus Is Her Name"

Looking forward to hearing it. I played drums in Freedy's band in the 90s and played on Can You Fly? I wish he'd allow some rock 'n roll back onto his music. Also good--The Trouble Tree.
