Fire Drill Review:
Memphis band Star & Micey have already created quite a buzz in their hometown with their self-titled debut record, as it was released on the storied Ardent Music label, while featuring guest spots from Luther Dickinson of The Black Crowes and North Mississippi Allstars and Jody Stephens of Big Star. The group plays a very simple soulful folk music that is both thought provoking and catchy. It is not a record that is going to get you revved up, as most of its tracks have a solid slow to mid tempo pace but this approach gives the listener plenty of opportunity to absorb its style. Star & Micey provide the perfect soundtrack for a rainy day here on their self-titled debut that stands up to repeat listens and is a great start for a talented new band.
