Fire Note Says: Time to get your English punk education!
Album Review:
You can say what you about reissues but I am always ok with repackaging if you get a solid remastering, a bunch of bonus material and they introduce a new generation to a band. The new Buzzcocks reissues covering their first three records meets the above criteria and are a stellar addition to any music lovers collection. The first thing that will impress you is that there are two discs to each record that features new artwork, previously unreleased tracks, John Peel sessions, associated singles, demos, backing tracks and live versions. Each edition packs over two hours of Buzzcocks glory in its two discs. This is pretty amazing considering these three records were released between 1978 and 1979. They are albums that I am certain most individuals under 30 have never heard. Some of the highlights on the reissues would be that Another Music In A Different Kitchen includes an entire 1977 live show recorded at Manchester's Electric Circus, while Love Bites has a full 1978 show from Manchester's Lesser Free Trade Hall, organized by Factory Records founder Tony Wilson. The new edition of A Different Kind Of Tension pulls together several hard to find songs like "The Drive System", "Jesus Made Me Feel Guilty" and "Run Away From Home", while it also has "I Look Alone", which was the last track the group recorded in their first incarnation. The Buzzcocks were one of the most influential bands to emerge in the initial wave of punk rock and presented a template to later bands on how to write strong melodies, crank on a guitar and supply plenty of energetic to the point lyrics. If you have never heard of the Buzzcocks then these releases are perfect - if you have Singles Going Steady and enjoy it - these reissues will be a natural fit!
