Doug Gillard: Call From Restricted

Doug Gillard
Call From Restricted
347 Records [2009]

Fire Drill Review:
Consistently good is a great way to describe singer/songwriter/guitarist Doug Gillard (Cobra Verde, Guided By Voices, Death Of Samantha). He has shined in every project he has been associated with and that has not been any different on his solo work. It has been six years since his last solo effort Salamander [2004] and Call From Restricted showcases that Gillard has not missed a beat. He can still put out a song with memorable lyrics, a catchy chorus and steady hand guitar, while at the same time never letting his music get reduced or boxed into one specific mode. Call From Restricted once again spotlights this talent, as Gillard can do everything from offering an upbeat rocker in "From What I've Done" and switching to a slow burner ballad in "Without This Light", while never losing any of his style in transition. This is a record that many overlooked but for any fan of Gillard's work, Call From Restricted will be a welcomed addition!

Key Track: "From What I've Done"
