Fire Note Says: This is a well oiled BRMC!

Album Review:
Beat The Devil's Tattoo is Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's sixth full length and first with new drummer Leah Shapiro. It is a record that fans are going to completely connect with, as it signals new beginnings but pulls from all their previous work and gels it into a documentary of sorts, that not only highlights what they do best but propels them into a new era. The same distorted rock that launched BRMC is still here, as songs like "Conscience Killer" pump with a feisty spirit of their debut, while the ballad "Sweet Feeling" revisits the bands acoustic strumming. What helps Beat The Devil's Tattoo rise above several of their more recent offerings is its pacing and tempo shifts. What once may have been an issue to deal with, BRMC has found their balance on Beat The Devil's Tattoo because it blends all of their styles into a grinding, gritty and graceful record all the way through. The band can create a wall of sound like no other, as on more then one track BRMC brings a shoegazeing blaze that keeps your ear to the speakers, including the over 10 minute closer "Half-State". The new pieces to hear on this record are subtle, as the band has morphed its undertone into more of a blues rhythm pulse and when not cranking up the amps, BRMC displays a Britpop side to them which comes through much clearer then on any previous record. With all of that said, Beat The Devil's Tattoo is another staple in BRMC's catalog and even though you won't find anything that feels completely fresh, the record has more than one exclamation point that should make new and old fans take notice!
