Drink Up Buttercup: Born And Thrown On A Hook

Drink Up Buttercup
Born And Thrown On A Hook
Yep Roc Records [2010]

Fire Drill Review:
Philly band Drink Up Buttercup give you exactly what you want in a good indie record. They have a very sporadic use of instruments and energy that combines nicely with their vocal harmonies. They muster up an overall classic 60's psychedelic vibe but at any moment can switch a song from folk to rock to dance and back again, while maintaining a cool retro swag but many times offering a very modern building song structure like an Arcade Fire. Drink Up Buttercup is then driven by the surprising falsetto's of lead vocalist James Harvey and lets the band chime in like Sgt Peppers but never comes off sounding corny just plain intriguing. At the end of the day, Born And Thrown On A Hook is one of those records that is hard to classify but immediately sticks in your head and forces you to keep hitting repeat!

Key Track: "Even Think"
