Fire Note Says: Welcome to the Irish highway to hell!
Album Review:
I can't say there are many live albums that I walk away thinking that the recording captured the true essence or energy of the band. Well - Live At The Greek Theatre from Irish punk rockers Flogging Molly is now on my list of exceptions because it brings everything you could want from the live format and never squelches or waters down the ever entertaining frontman Dave King or his entourage. The performance on tape here is from the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on September 12, 2009 and it gives you a full 90 minutes of Molly, that does a nice job of covering material from all of their four studio records. What really makes Live At The Greek Theatre so solid is that it sounds spectacular. It doesn't mute the crowd, it doesn't cut off the band and it was mixed by Grammy award winning engineer Ryan Hewitt (Red Hot Chili Peppers). This is exactly what you get at a Flogging Molly show and this one in particular holds nothing back, as it is enjoyable from beginning to end. Most times I would never recommend someone starting with a group's live record if they are not familiar with the band but in Flogging Molly's case Live At The Greek Theatre can be a starting point for a newbie and is a must for any FM fan out there!
*The DVD was shot with eight high definitions cameras including a jib crane. Unfortunately we only received the audio discs but can only assume the DVD is great too!
