Fire Note Says: Another solid effort in the can for Jason Collett!
Album Review:
Jason Collett has quietly worked himself into being one of Toronto's most adored singer/songwriters as he now is on album number five with Rat A Tat Tat. In bigger circles, he of course is known more for being one of the talented members of indie darlings Broken Social Scene but on his solo outings, Collett's song structures are much more conservative while his musical avenues are still very exploratory. On several tracks, Collett tries a more folksier approach that works out ok but his stronger suit is definitely in the more easy pop rock strides that flow along and highlight his pleasant to listen to voice and well written lyrics. Rat A Tat Tat is what you want from a solo artist and Collett comes off completely sincere, not worried if you hate em but also not worried if you love him. He is just a talented guy singing his songs and his songs are pretty good!
