Fire Note Says: Strong singles will pull you in!
Album Review:
This new UK band import has a good chance of catching some ears over here, as their debut record Sigh No More combines the chamber harmonies of the Fleet Foxes with the neo-folk banjo of The Avett Brothers, while creating building songs in the spirit of Arcade Fire. Sure those are big names to throw out but Mumford & Sons do an excellent job of melding these different approaches to create their own niche and give Sigh No More a baseline strength. The singles off this record are extremely strong and leave lasting impressions. They really are catchy and sophisticated to the point that they overshadow some of the more plain and slow burning tracks. Overall, Sigh No More is a bit off balanced but at its conclusion it still is a promising debut record that should only be the start of success for Mumford & Sons as they mature their own process!
