Fire Drill Review:
Codeine Velvet Club is the combo of Fratellis frontman Jon Lawler and Scottish burlesque performer Lou Hickey, as they share their love of '60s girl-boy duets, dramatic orchestral pop, and dark post-war Hollywood and Las Vegas romanticism. The duo puts forth a swagger on their self-titled debut that is grandiose both musically and stylistically, while just providing a carefree listen. The record never takes this stroll to the next level and may not be for everyone but it does capture the true spirit of the era and should appeal to a multitude of fans that range from Combustible Edison to Pulp.
