Nathaniel RateliffIn Memory Of Loss
Rounder Records [2010]

Fire Drill Review:
Singer/songwriter Nathaniel Rateliff has transformed his 8-track bedroom demos into a solid debut record that molds his folk stories into a very listenable package that has soul. In Memory Of Loss comes across like he has been releasing records for years with its smooth delivery and with the help of producer Brian Deck (Iron & Wine, Califone, Modest Mouse) it maintains just enough weariness to keep your ear on every word but also bursts out with a modern freshness and upbeat tempos that keep the record constantly moving. Nathaniel Rateliff is a kid from Missouri that grew up on Led Zeppelin, Muddy Waters and the Beatles and although In Memory Of Loss follows a more neo-folk line, the songs all possess the qualities that made those other artists great and make for a debut record that should be heard!
