Fire Drill Review:
Getting a break to record History From Below was a monumental task for San Diego band Delta Spirit, as they have played over 290 shows in the past two years supporting their excellent debut Ode To Sunshine [2008]. This new record finds the band reducing their members from five to four but basically continues the similar sound found on their debut. The album is lacking some of the immediate punch power that the debut possessed but in most circumstances makes up for it with memorable layered harmonies and well thought out songwriting. History From Below will definitely not lose any fans but may be more of a challenge to adore, as these tracks come off a bit more relaxed and need more time to absorb. What History From Below has going for it, is that the songs here were made for the live stage and still represent a solid sophomore record that I can get behind, as it gets better after every spin!
