Fjord RowboatUnder Cover Of Brightness
Roxton Records [2010]

Fire Drill Review:
Toronto band Fjord Rowboat play a style of shoegaze-tinged rock on their sophomore record Under Cover Of Brightness that embraces both the post-punk styles of Joy Division and the soundscape tunefulness of Catherine Wheel. It is easy to compare their musical slickness to others like early Interpol or Echo but Fjord Rowboat separates themselves as this record really captures the essence of what made those bands great. Under Cover Of Brightness is moody, dark, grinding and yet dreamy and sprawling, which connects the listener to the past while propelling them into the future. Fjord Rowboat have made a solid album that stands up strongly to repeat plays and has a timelessness factor to it that could easily creep the record into one of our favorites for the year!
Key Track: "Underwater Hero"
Band With Similar Fire: Interpol
