Fire Drill Review:
Well - one way to release a covers record and stay out of trouble (almost) is to select a handful of tracks that probably only a small amount of people actually know what all the originals sound like. With tracks from Girls, Vashti Bunyan, Son Volta and Dear Nora, I am almost positive it will leave much of Mates Of State's fan base scratching their head but I get it - it is the duo's personal favorites. Even staying on the indie side of things may have been cool but then the addition of Fleetwood Mac's "Second Hand News" just messes up the style. At the end of the day these are still favorites of Mates Of State but with not much new or different going on other than their male/female vocal approach, most people will just pass on this covers release.
