Sleigh Bells: Treats

Sleigh Bells

Fire Note Says:
One infectious set of 32 minutes!

Album Review:
There are always certain albums that you know are great from the first beat, which was my brain's immediate reaction to Brooklyn's Sleigh Bells debut Treats. First song "Tell 'Em" starts off with an industrial rapid fire attack that is then taken over by the pleasant vocals of Alexis Krauss who chimes in, out and around the beats. It is this perfect timing and loud musical volume effect, which makes this duo so catchy and what feels like them pushing the indie fringe. It is also the fact the other half on this record is Derek Miller who played in the Florida hardcore band Poison The Well. He brings that hard edge to Sleigh Bells and is responsible for the pounding and in your face instrumentation that at times can be distorted and ear piercing, while Alexis "made for pop" sweet vocal conquers the volume and rounds off Treats edges. This combo is solely responsible for how Sleigh Bells can appear to break rules but come off sounding so right! Treats is a true unique listen, as it incorporates a little something for everyone, that covers surf, punk, metal, hip-hop, sugar pop and melodies to die for. This all translates into Sleigh Bells releasing an album that we will for sure be talking about at the end of this year and probably setting it as the gold standard in years to come!

It's been ages since I've heard an album that sucks as badly as this one; the only redeeming quality being that it has electric guitars. But it does not rock. This is for the extasy/disco/no-taste-in-music crowd. I can't believe you gave it such a high rating, its such a load of crap.
