Adam Franklin & Bolts Of Melody: I Could Sleep For A Thousand Years

Adam Franklin & Bolts Of Melody
I Could Sleep For A Thousand Years
Second Motion Records [2010]

Fire Drill Review:
Adam Franklin is the former frontman of the critically hailed shoegazers Swervedriver and now is on his third solo record but first as a collaborative with his band Bolts Of Melody. The record shows many sides of Franklin, that not only revisits some of his dreamy space music days but also dabbles in some noise like a Sonic Youth, indie wordplay such as Pavement and then several more straight forward singer/songwriter pop tracks. The overall vibe on I Could Sleep For A Thousand Years is very laid back and it is probably the closest release to Franklin's Swervedriver work with its swirling guitars and somewhat fuzzy production. There is not a track on here that immediately stands out but after giving the record several spins the album works much better as a collection and should be pleasing to Franklin's longtime followers.

Key Track: "Yesterday Has Gone Forever"

Band With Similar Fire: Yo La Tengo
