Fire Drill Review:
Chris Shiflett is the guitarist from the Foo Fighters and on his self-titled debut, with backing band The Dead Peasants, he shows us his Americana flare complete with pedal steel and lyrical heartbreak. It is clearly what you expect for a solo record, as it does not go anywhere close to Foo Fighters material. This album lets Shiflett showcase his singing and songwriting, which comes off competent but ultimately lacks the substance and a change of pace to keep you around for repeat listens. I would not write off Chris Shiflett & The Dead Peasants completely after this debut but if the group is going to stay in this genre they will need to step up the cohesiveness for round two.
