Crowded House: Intriguer

Crowded House
Intriguer
Fantasy/Concord Music Group [2010]

Fire Drill Review:
Neil Finn has always been the driving force behind Crowded House and on their second album in just three years the band is hitting the notes on all cylinders. Of course Finn can't do it alone, as he is joined by long-time collaborators Nick Seymour and Mark Hart, with drummer Matt Sherrod officially in as Paul Hester's replacement. The album also features appearances from Lisa Germano and Finn's son Liam, which only increases Intriguer's appeal. The record has a much more subtle approach to things but never dulls, as "Saturday Sun" is a staple Crowded House single and "Amsterdam" has a confident swagger to it that sticks in your head, while "Isolation" blows up unexpectedly in its final third for an energized conclusion. Intriguer may not have the super stand out singles of Crowded House's past but it gives you solid songwriting and an excellent cohesive listen that longtime fans should adore and welcome with open arms!
