Suckers: Wild Smile

Suckers
Wild Smile
Frenchkiss Records [2010]

Fire Drill Review:
We were really excited to check out the full length debut from Brooklyn's Suckers after last years excellent self-titled EP. The full length holds up to their Afro-pop beginnings and still contains most of the energy which made their EP so infectious. The transition from a killer EP to the LP is not always easy and the Suckers struggle on a few songs to make them memorable. The album does show a confidence though as only one song from the EP is included here. Lead singer Quinn Walker has a crazy high falsetto that soars throughout Wild Smile and for some listeners it might take a few spins to adjust. Overall, Wild Smile succeeds and puts the Suckers on the official map of bands to keep an eye on because I think this record just shows it is only the beginning!
