Fire Note Says: Roots rock from up North!
Album Review:
I could give you ten guesses and you would still never correctly pick that The Beauties style of roots rock Americana hails from Toronto Canada. The five piece offers up a very southern sound on their self-titled full length debut that represents such an honest approach to the genre that you become a fan before the opening foot tapper "Fashion Blues" ends. Even though this is The Beauties first full length release the group is well known on the Canadian scene with a successful EP and haveing already opened for acts such as Broken Social Scene and Alejandro Escovedo while backing up Ron Sexsmith. This seasoned experience comes through here, as this record has a perfect balance of maturity and eagerness that highlights a new band aiming for the stars but relying on their roots. Make no mistake that The Beauties have a very bar band blue collar sound that has grit, spirit and plenty of memorable moments that every roots rocker should want to hear!
Key Tracks: "Fashion Blues", "Heart Of Stone", "Hearts Are Down"
