Fire Note Says: Strongest work to date!
Album Review:
Intense and mellow, sultry and dirty blues, thoughtful ballads and heavy induced rock, narrative and poetic lyrics plus one good Elvis cover are just several takes on Dax Riggs sophomore solo record Say Goodnight To The World. Riggs has a healthy rock career from his White Stripe like band Deadboy & The Elephantmen to the metal rock of Acid Bath, but out on his own, Say Goodnight To The World finds him at his most focused and free. This record is good not because of a perfect flow, perfect vocals or that Elvis cover. It is good because Dax gives you an emotionally driven 10 tracks over 35 minutes that is 100% him. He can rock out, like on "No One Will Be A Stranger" or croon in the Beck-ish ballad "Like Moonlight" plus deconstruct on his weary and mentally strained version of "Heartbreak Hotel". The entire record has a bluesy undertone but it just exists and never tries to dominate the record, which allows Riggs to create an atmosphere with his lyrics and tone. From the opening chords on the lead off title track, Dax Riggs pulls you into Say Goodnight To The World and showcases his evolution into an artist that definitely should be paid attention to, as this record has him at a creative high!
