Department Of Eagles: Archive 2003-2006

Department Of Eagles
Archive 2003-2006
American Dust Records [2010]

Fire Drill Review:
Daniel Rossen's focus is not always on his main gig Grizzly Bear, as this side project with college buddy Fred Nicolaus yielded a great sophomore record with In Ear Park back in 2008. Basically Archive captures the duo's work in-between their two records and actually creates a nice trilogy. Initially some tracks may feel like they need a conclusion but keeping the record in perspective Archive really is a perfect window into Rossen's world. You can hear both of his bands in this work and most definitely there are tracks that should have made one his groups records because they are solid. The overall vibe on Archive is not that these 11 songs are throwaways but that this album represents a finished work. Department Of Eagles output here is both folk based, pop driven and symphonically orchestrated. The end result is busy catchy tracks bundled in the most simplistic form, which is why even the groups archives should be checked out - especially if you are already a fan.

Key Track: "While We're Young"
